KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The University of Tennessee-Knoxville’s master of accountancy program is the nation’s 10th best, a national publication says.
The annual Public Accounting Report, a nationwide survey of accounting professors, ranks UT-Knoxville’s master’s program seventh best among public universities and its undergraduate program 20th.
“This is the first time the master of accountancy program has broken into the top 10,” said Dr. Keith Stanga, head of accounting and business law.
Stanga credits the award, in part, to the hard work of the department’s faculty and staff.
“Also, a lot of the credit goes to our students for their hard work and determination, and much credit goes to alumni for financial support of our department,” he said.
Like other programs in the college of business administration, UT-Knoxville’s accounting program has had a “long-standing ranking as being one of the top programs in the country,” said Dr. Warren Neel, dean of the college of business administration.
“(Having) a nationally ranked program gives students a leg up to competitive jobs in the field of accounting,” he said.
Accounting joins a list of other disciplines in the college that have received national acclaim, Neel said.
“The transportation program has been ranked number one by the transportation managers and executives in the country,” he said. Likewise, the marketing and industrial psychology programs have received high rankings as well.
Last year the same publication ranked UT’s master of accountancy program at 17th, 12th best among public universities.
