KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Degrees will be awarded to 1,452 students Friday at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville’s summer commencement.

The program begins at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, in the Thompson-Boling Arena. The commencement speaker is Dr. Alvin Trivelpiece, director of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and president of Lockheed Martin Energy Research Corp. UT President Joseph E. Johnson will confer the degrees.

The following undergraduate degrees, by college, will be awarded:

Agricultural sciences and natural resources, 34; architecture and planning, 2; arts and sciences, 342; business administration, 120; communications, 33; education, 55; engineering, 59; human ecology, 84; nursing, 7; social work, 2; law, 6; and veterinary medicine, 2.

Advanced degrees to be conferred include: masters, 603; doctor of philosophy, 80; doctor of education, 10; specialist in education, 13.
