KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The University of Tennessee-Knoxville and the UT National Alumni Association are once again hosting a week of elective learning through the Alumni Summer College program, Aug. 7-11.
Summer college is designed to give people the opportunity to go back to school for a week — without the tests, said Steve Catlett, UT director of alumni programs. The seminars are designed to educate as well as entertain.
Since 1996 is Tennessee’s bicentennial birthday, the five-day event will feature seminars and lectures by UT experts covering many facets of the state, from its writers and cuisine to its famous folks and dialects.
A day-trip to historic Rugby, Tenn., a performance at the Cumberland County Playhouse and a visit to the Cumberland Mountain State Park are planned for Saturday, Aug. 10. Other non-classroom activities include a visit from Elvis and a reenactment of the state’s history by founding fathers John Sevier, William Blount and James White.
The reservation deadline is July 22. The cost of the program is $175 per person. A minimum deposit of $75 per person will reserve a space. The $100 balance must be paid upon arrival. For more information, contact Amy Williams at (423) 974-5432 or Steve Catlett at (423) 974-3011.
All friends and alumni of the University of Tennessee are invited to attend. The UT National Alumni Association has 110 chapters worldwide and represents more than 225,000 people.
