KNOXVILLE, Tenn.– Jeffrey Cathey, graduate of Shelbyville Central High School, has been presented the highest student honor at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

Cathey was presented the Torchbearer award for his service to the university and the community. He is a senior animal science major and the son of Joyce and Phil King and James and Robin Cathey.

He served as president of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, an Orientation Leader, a UT Cheerleader, and a peer mentor in the First-Year Studies Program at UT-Knoxville.

He has worked with the Inner City Recreation Center, Team Vols, and the Homelessness Awareness Project.

Cathey is the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources’ Outstanding Senior, is an Arch McClanahan Scholar, and he is a member of his college’s Ambassador Program and the Agricultural Business Club.

Seven other seniors received the Torchbearer award recently at the Chancellor’s Honors Banquet.
