CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — University of Tennessee-Knoxville Chancellor Bill Snyder has been recognized for his support of diversity and minority programs.
Snyder was named Chancellor of the Year at the annual conference of The African American Leadership Association held at UT-Chattanooga.
Dr. Henry Parker, association director, said Snyder was honored primarily for his efforts to improve UT-Knoxville’s minority student retention rate, which is consistently among the best in the state.
“We know that UT-Knoxville’s outstanding record for minority retention did not happen by chance,” Parker said. “We admire Chancellor Snyder’s commitment to fair play.”
Parker is a psychology professor at UT-Martin, where he founded The African American Leadership Association in 1994 as a statewide organization primarily to support minorities near college towns. It has grown to include administrators, faculty, staff and students from schools in Tennessee, Georgia and Illinois, Parker said.
