KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The department of physics and astronomy at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville will help amateur astronomers view the stars, sun and planets April 25 during Astronomy Day.
Several large telescopes will be available for public use from 1-5 p.m., and 7:30-11:30 p.m. at the Alvin H. Nielsen Physics Building, UT astronomy instructor Paul Lewis said.
The event also includes a presentation at 1:30 p.m. titled ”Astronomical History,” and a space art display by Mark Maxwell, an internationally-known artist who works with the NASA space shuttle program, Lewis said.
Participants at the event also will have the opportunity to help grind a telescope lens, win telescopes, astronomical posters and other prizes, or receive a custom, computer-made star chart, Lewis said.
Admission is free, and free parking will be available in staff lot No. 1 in front of the Physics Building.
